Retail update:

A few retail updates for Riverdale Park Station.

Unfortunately H&R Retail has not updated their website for this community this entire year.

This leaves searching the web and asking the businesses about retail commitments.

The Comcast/Xfinity building opened to customers yesterday…  They still do not have permanent signage up but they are now open.

Space 4I which is on the lower level of the Golds Gym building was just leased to FedEX and is going to be a FedEX Office store.   Not super exciting stuff there but could be worse.

The MOD Pizza had a job fair on site last weekend so I am thinking they may be the next thing to open sometime this fall  They added some coming soon signs.  The Burton’s had said they planned to open in early November and I am thinking MOD pizza will be opening before that in October or so.

Now for the rumor mill section:   The space in 1A which is the retail space in the upper left hand corner of Riverdale Park Station…. I heard is going to be a “Farm to Table” restaurant.  Although they still have not announced who this is I can see that they are already building out the inside of this building.  I will try to find out which restaurant is coming here and let the blog know.

I have also heard from multiple sources that an Apple Store is coming to Riverdale Park Station.   Although I own a lot of Apple products I’m not super excited about this one as I would only go there once every 2 years.

Even so getting an Apple Store would really add to the ‘cachet’ of Riverdale Park Station so I am pulling for it to happen.  There are only 6 Apple Stores in the entire greater Washington area and only one location in DC.  (Georgetown).   In Maryland there is a gap from Bethesda all the way up to Columbia Maryland…   It would make Riverdale Park Station much busier but also do a lot to put it on the map.

  1. To address some of the rumors you've heard: the farm to table restaurant is Founding Farmers, wildly popular place in D.C. and MoCo. I've also heard about the Apple store coming as well but haven't been able to find much on it save for that it's going to be next to Founding Farmers.

I've also heard that there may be a Nordstrom Rack coming but I don't know where they're going to put it. Maybe you might be able to find out more information about it since you live in the area.

    1. Thanks! I also heard the rumor on Nordstrom Rack but only from one person so I left it out. Where did you hear about Founding Farmers if you don't mind me asking? I saw the article on Hyattsville Wire talking about Founding Farmers coming from early 2014 but that just said they had heard it from someone who heard it from someone else and that article is 3.5 years old.

    2. Hmm. I might've heard it from the same person you did, a Stanley Martin rep when I was doing an informal house tour. But they specifically said Founding Farmers, got excited about it and explained it to me because I didn't know what it was. I saw that article you're talking about too. I think until there's an official announcement, I'm not going to hold my breath on it. But I think it would be really nice if it were true. Riverdale Park needs more fine dining options.

I also asked the same rep about the parking situation, especially with the gym and other retail coming. Apparently there is going to be an underground parking garage, 857 total with about 400 reserved for residents and guests of residents. I could be really wrong about those numbers but they stick out in my head.

    3. I can confirm the underground parking garage as I have the plans for that building. I reached out to Founding Farmers to try to get confirmation. I am hoping the owners will get at least one spot in front of their home but we shall see.... first HOA meeting has not been scheduled yet.

    4. Founding Farmers just said they currently have no plans to have a location at Riverdale Park Station.

    5. That's a shame, just in the business aspect. I know home developers can exaggerate but it seems counterproductive to outright lie. But then again, I could be naive or maybe they are being super secretive as you said below.

    6. Could be the PR person (her title was "Guest Relations Manager") they have answering their questions is unaware of the upcoming Riverdale location...or maybe it was something they were looking at the in the past that they are not looking at now.

  2. An Apple Store would actually be fantastic. And FedEx would be great for missed packages.

  3. Haha I heard the exact same rumors as well (probably from the same person too - @MDRE, you know whom I'm talking about lolol). I was super excited about Founding Farmer, since they can surely attract good crowd to the neighborhood. It's a very popular restaurant in the farm to table category but personally I think their food is just ok :)

    1. Founding Farmers said they have no plans to come here. Maybe they are just being secretive but I'm not sure.

    2. I am glad FF is not coming. They're mediocre. They have good buzz though.

  4. I’ve been reading through all the old posts on this blog as I’m about to sign my contract today. The sales rep as of April 2018 was still mentioning Founding Farmers and Apple. Not sure I believe him now after reading all of this.
