The Giant Bear:

I was just curious what readers thought of the giant bear they put out in front the center of Village Square.

There was an article in the Hyattsville Wire about it here:

I thought maybe Riverdale had something to do with bears which I was not aware of... but then I saw in this article that it just said:

"Bear is many things to many people and subject to different interpretations. My hope is the community will enjoy his protective presence and serene spirit in Bear Square."

What do you all think?

  1. Haha, I love that you created a post just for the bear. When I first saw it, I thought it was really random? But he's grown on me :) It's bright, large, kind of quirky, and definitely brings a bit of character. Generally speaking, I'm pleasantly surprised that people linger in this area (myself included), sitting at the benches by WF/Starbucks, playing in the fountain (I see kids with swimsuits and towels), sitting on the swinging benches. Even with busy Route 1 nearby and all the ongoing construction that isn't very pleasing to the eye/ear. I look forward to the rest of the public spaces in RPS.

    1. I feel the same way... the first time I saw it I was thinking "what the heck is that thing" but now I don't hate it as much as it has started to grow on me a bit.

Lots of kids and parents there this weekend and right now all that is there is the Whole Foods and Starbucks.

  2. Not loving it... but I guess we'll have to get used to it... My husband and I are moving into building two with our 1 year old this summer. Hope to see you around!

    1. Great… Glad to know there will be someone else with a baby in our building. Maybe our kids will like the giant bear. LOL
